Getting Started With R Johnston Interiors

1. Let’s have a phone conversation. Maybe you haven’t worked with an interior designer before and want to learn more about how the process works. That’s totally fine. We love to educate people on the value interior designers bring to any project. During this conversation we’d like to hear about your project, find out if you’ve set a budget, have a time frame in mind, what you expect the interior designer you hire to bring to your project, and what your goal for the project is. Good communication is the key to a successful project. We both need to find out if we’re a good fit for each other, and whether the scope of your project and your time frame fit into our current client load.

2. If we think we’re a good fit for each other, the next step would be to meet in person. We like to make a site visit to access the project scope. This step is part of how we get to know each other and we do not charge for this service. For our out of town clients, we’ll set up a Go-to-Meeting or Skype visit.

3. If you’re ready to move forward, we both sign a Letter of Agreement (aka contract) that defines the scope of the project, how RJI Inc. is compensated, and what both parties are responsible for. Once the Letter of Agreement is complete, the transformation begins!

MSD_KT_002We undertook a total remodel of our home which required us to move out for 8 months. We have a great contractor who did a fantastic job remodeling our home. It was the services of [R JOHNSTON INTERIORS] that brought the entire project to life. Rebecca served as the critical connective tissue between our contractor, our architect and the design industry. When Rebecca came on board and translated the architectural drawings into space plans, it gave us the confidence to make the investment and go forward with the remodel. She has both an architectural and a design eye and the combination for us was critical. Her abiding attention to how we actually use the space helped us to not only avoid several critical mistakes it also ensured that the end result was a home chalk full of usable, beautiful space. The final measure for us is that we are simply delighted with every inch of our home. It is beautiful and a perfect place for us to grow our family. I give her the highest recommendation. She will be my first call when we redo our vacation home, or undertake any other large project that requires an integration of architecture, design and practicality.

CSD_LR_001The design and management of our $1.5M remodel from concept to a reality exceeded our expectations. R Johnston Interiors translated our architect’s basic drawings into detailed build plans, and Rebecca worked closely with me to specify and document every detail. No item large or small was left to chance. She designed custom cabinetry and ceiling details throughout our remodeled space. Her eye for defining and utilizing space brought together a new main kitchen, catering kitchen, redesigned butler pantry, lounge, family room, master bedroom/bath, a new guest suite, and the remodeling of our pool house. She even re-imagined our back stair case into a showpiece we enjoy every day. Rebecca’s knowledge and technical expertise were the glue that brought our fragmented ideas to a cohesive, executable plan. She understood our taste and guided us so expertly that we feel the final result is our own. But, of course, we had no knowledge of any of the many beautiful products before she selected them for our consideration! No remodel is ever successful without a team of professionals. Rebecca’s industry connections brought outstanding contractors to build, paint, paper, and dress our home. The results never fail to elicit rave reviews from our friends and family.

MSD_KT_003I met Rebecca Johnston and gave her a quote on a Kitchen in Laguna. This task of taking information from a designer and turning it into workable drawings and then into cabinetry that actually fits is not always an easy transition. She is a cut above. Her ability to convey what she wants using proper terminology, accurate measurements and a pleasant disposition are some of her average talents. Her real talent is the ability to call out proper materials that work well with each other, look beautiful and compliment the environment in which they reside. Her knowledge and understanding of the cadence of construction in High End residential is also very refreshing. I look forward to working with Rebecca anytime she may need our services. I would strongly recommend her to anyone looking for a take charge, easy going, Talented, receptive and respectful Designer.Shawn Belschner Owner, Funtime Cabinet Factory
