We have officially opened our new home store Mixed by Design on Main St. in Old Town Newhall. We moved a few doors down from our previous location and are still proud to call Main St. our home for 6 years.
This milestone is a big move for our company, as we introduce the first designer grade home store in the city of Santa Clarita. R Johnston Interiors' mission has always been to educate our clients about quality furniture and accessories and we can now do that with the expansion of our store and by carrying products that last a lifetime in both style and durability.
Philosophy of Quality
Mixed by Design was born from our design philosophy of 'Fewer, Better.'' As professional designers it's our responsibility to our clients to educate them on what we are putting into their homes or properties. We are responsible for the health and safety of their built environment – but we believe that goes farther. We are stewards of our environment and of our community. We push past fast fashion and a "good enough" mentality to look at creating heritage designs that will grow with our clients for decades to come. We look for local craftsmen and designers, and we look for companies around the world that are making a positive impact in their workers community through their business practices.
Our new home store sells furniture, lighting, accent decor, and more. The pieces we bring into Mixed by Design aren't fad-like pieces. We take the same approach to timeless design, regardless of style, as our client focused work when it comes to the pieces we bring into the shop. We look for great quality craftsmanship, beautiful details, and unique pieces that you just don't see at your typical home goods box-store.
Customer Focused Home Store
We built the home store with the customer in mind. Our vision was to build a showroom style environment for our clients. We hear all the time from folks that they just don't know how to blend all the different looks they're drawn to. Our design practice has no set style, and certainly neither does the shop. We want customers to see for themselves how they can mix and match design styles, mix a more expensive and refined piece of furniture with some less expensive elements without compromising great design.
When you go shop at Mixed by Design you are surrounded with a variety of pieces that are uniquely different but work so perfectly together. It's about a mix of styles, but also about a mix of price points. We believe that is how we will help make a lasting impact on the environment and the careers of talented craftspeople – buy fewer, better pieces to curate our homes to reflect us now, and allow us to grow into other design styles without throwing everything out and starting again.

2021 Title Sponsor for Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley's Fashion Show, a non profit working to improve the lives of women and girls.
Rebecca is serving her fifth year as a member of the Board for Bridge to Home. A non-profit we support that shares in the belief that the spaces we build for people impact their outlook on the world around them. R Johnston Interiors partnered with the Architect of Record on the project to implement trauma informed design strategies for the new shelter.
